NICCONI, a general 4-1 favourite for next Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes, completed his preparation for the 5f Group 1 contest with an exhilarating display under big-race jockey Frankie Dettori on theAl Bahathri Polytrack on Tuesday morning.

The winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Lightning Stakes at Flemington at the end of January, Nicconi worked on his own under Dettori and delighted trainer David Hayes with his wellbeing. Following the workout, Hayes said: "We had intended working on Wednesday morning but Frankie wasn't available then so we brought his gallop forward a day.

"He worked over five furlongs and quickened up in the last 400 yards and really stretched. That was his last serious piece of work and we are very happy with him."

Alverta, another Australian raider preparing for Royal Ascot, worked on the Al Bahathri Polytrack on Sunday morning where she was partnered by Leah Gavranich in a spin over 3f. The seven-year-old mare was a comfortable winner of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic Handicap at Rosehill in March and is set to take her chance in the Golden Jubilee on June 19, with the July Cup at Newmarket on July 9 on the agenda afterwards. Trainer Paul Messara said: "She worked nicely and Tye Angland will be coming over next week to ride her in the Golden Jubilee."
