Punters are expected to be given a clearer betting picture of the Sportingbet Cox Plate this weekend with a number of key races in Melbourne and Sydney likely to impact the early market.

Eleven Cox Plate first acceptors are down to run in tomorrow's Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley including last year's winner Rekindled Interest, 2011 Caulfield Cup runner-up Green Moon and ATC Derby winner Ethiopia.

Punters expect the Jim Conlan-trained Rekindled Interest to improve on his unplaced first-up run when he returns to his favourite track and he is a $3.60 TAB favourite to defend his Dato crown tomorrow.

He narrowly shades fellow Cox Plate first acceptor Green Moon ($3.70) with the pair kept safe in Cox Plate betting following Tuesdays first acceptances at $11 and $13 respectively.

Popular galloper Alcopop has shortened from his opening quote of $26 into $15 after solid support from punters who are hoping he can go one better than his second place in the race last year. The Jake Stephens-trained galloper remains at $101 for the Cox Plate.

Meanwhile, $5.50 Cox Plate second elect More Joyous resumes for Gai Waterhouse in the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill tomorrow.

The eight-time Group 1 winner has been consistently backed from her opening quote of $1.30 into the prohibitive odds of $1.18.

The Cox Plate market, headed by Waterhouse stablemate Peirro at $4.80, looks to be the only spring feature race not dominated by internationals.

Only three overseas-trained horses - the Alain de Royer Dupre pair Americain ($51) and Shahwardi ($101) as well as Luca Cumani's Afsare ($51) - were among Tuesday's first acceptances and punters are yet to warm to them in markets.

Defending Melbourne Cup champion Dunaden ($16) and the Marco Botti-trained Jakkalberry ($18) have received solid Caulfield Cup support while promising Cumani galloper Mount Athos remains a $13 equal favourite for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

Red Cadeaux was also a Melbourne Cup firmer this week ($21 into $17) following the announcement from trainer Ed Dunlop that he would bypass the Caulfield Cup.

In other key races on the Moonee Valley card:

Avienus has been a firmer from $9 into $8 in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes market headed by Spirit Song ($4). King's Rose took out the race last year with Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed (fourth) and Cox Plate heroine Pinker Pinker (second) finishing behind.

The Group 3 McEwen Stakes (1000m) looks a race in two with Jason Warren's Bel Sprinter ($2.40) and in-form Moody galloper Golden Archer ($3.10) dominating the betting.

Strong support for resuming Darley galloper Pied A Terre has seen him firm from $6 to assume equal favouritism at $5 with Valley debutant That's The One in the day's final event, the Listed Chandler MacLeod Stakes (1200m).

Another highlight for punters on Sportingbet Cox Plate Preview Day is the TAB's $50,000 Jackpot on the Big 6. The Big 6 kicks off at 1:40pm with Adapt Australia Handicap while the subsequent five legs all carry black type status. (www.racingvictoria.net.au)
