IN A show of support for their comrades currently under fire from the anti-jumps protesters, jockeys at Flemington yesterday wore green armbands in races five and six in recognition of the anxious times faced by their jumps peers, reports the Sunday Age.

It says: A group of flat riders led by senior jockeys Craig Williams and Brad Rawiller attended the pro-jumps rally at Racing Victoria headquarters on Wednesday morning to lend their support to the jumps racing fraternity. Yesterday, a large group of jumps riders were at Flemington to again put their cause in the spotlight.

"It's really heart-warming to see the support from the flat jockeys. We all look out for each other in this business and if they were in need we'd be there to support them," leading jumps jockey Steven Pateman said.

Jockeys Association chief executive officer Des O'Keeffe said that the green armbands were a show of solidarity throughout the jockey ranks and only confirmed the depth of support throughout the racing industry for jumps racing.

"We had a really good roll-up on Wednesday and to see the jumps jockeys here supporting the flat riders and vice-versa is just brilliant," said O'Keeffe.

The RVL board will make an announcement regarding the future of jumps racing in Victoria at 3pm tomorrow after postponing the decision originally due to be made last week.
