Fair Game remains the TAB favourite to win this year’s Melbourne Cup following official nominations today.

The Japanese star has firmed from $10 into $8.00 and is the second best backed horse to date behind last year’s winner Protectionist – who is priced at $21 to go back to back.

One horse who adds intrigue is the Aiden O’Brien trained Order of St George ($21) – winner of the Irish St Leger Trial at his last start.

“Given Aidan O’Brien hasn’t had a horse in the Cup since 2008 there is a question mark as to whether Order of St George will be a starter. But if he comes the $21 will seem like overs and it will be a good chance to move into favouritism,” said TAB’s Nick Quinn.
