A total of 202 nominations have been weighed for the 146th running of the $2million BMW Doncaster Mile (Group 1) to be staged at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 21st April 2012.

Since the rise in minimum jockey weights on 1 January 2012, this is the first year that weights for the Doncaster Mile have been released with a minimum weight of 52kg with no further allowances for three-year-olds below this 52kg weight.

The honour of topweight has been given to dual Group One winner Descarado with 58.5kg. Descarado was allocated with 56kg on a 51kg limit in the 2011 Doncaster Handicap but did not contest the event. He has since been placed in the Group 1-Ranvet, and won at his most recent start the Group 1-Caulfield Stakes. Descarado's weight represents 0.5kg under weight-for-age.

Next in line is 2010 Doncaster Mile winner Rangirangdoo with 58kg (on 52kg). Rangirangdoo, will be asked to carry the equivalent weight to last year when he was allotted 57kg on a 51kg limit. He has since won the Group 1-George Ryder but has been unplaced in two starts since returning from a lengthy spell.

The highest benchmarked horse is the mare More Joyous (NZ) (120) with 57.5kg. She is in receipt of the 2kg allowance given to all mares. This is the equivalent weight allocated to the mare when she contested last year's event finishing unplaced on a heavy track.

Two other super mares Sacred Choice and Pinker Pinker are set to contest the event. The winner of the 2011 Doncaster Mile, Sacred Choice has been weighted with 54.5kg. This is a 2kg rise on the weight she carried last year. She has since been placed in the Group 1-Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Gr 1-Myer Classic.

The reigning Cox Plate champion Pinker Pinker has been allocated 55.5kg which represents 1.5kg under weight-for-age.

Epsom winner Secret Admirer 54kg and Myer Classic winner Hurtle Myrtle 53kg add to the mares contingent.

Rain Affair, who has not raced beyond 1400-metres, boasts an almost unblemished record of 10 wins from 11 starts and sits on 55.5kg. His major victories have been two effortless wins at Group 2 level including his latest the Apollo Stakes, one at Group 3 and another at Listed level.

The highest-weighted three-year-old is the Group 1-Golden Rose winner and Caulfield Guineas placegetter Manawanui with 53kg.

The exciting duo of three-year-old fillies, Atlantic Jewel and Mosheen sit on exactly 52kg, with the promising Streama rated slightly below that pair but also carrying 52kg as the minimum weight. The last three-year-old filly to win the Doncaster Mile was Sunline in 1999 carrying the weight of 52kg.
