Brilliant sprinter Chautauqua has firmed after today’s barrier draw for the TJ Smith Stakes.
The Team Hawkes-trained runner is $4.20 into $3.40 to win his second consecutive TJ Smith Stakes on Day 1 of The Championships this Saturday after coming up with gate 11.
Exosphere remains favourite and firmed up slightly ($2.80-$2.70) as he’ll start from barrier four.
English ($11-$9), who has drawn gate 14, is the only other runner under double figures.
“The top two in betting renew their battle after the Lightning Stakes at Flemington,” TAB’s Glenn Munsie said.
“With Exosphere returning home and away from the straight he’s been made the favourite over Chautauqua who of course won this race last year.”
In other betting news, Telperion ($3.50-$3.80) holds favouritism in the Inglis Sires despite drifting slightly today. The Godolphin-trained runner is the second best backed runner in the market behind Yankee Rose ($4.60).
The pair will start from barriers four and eight respectively.
