JOCKEY Blake Shinn has a ''pathological gaming disorder'', which he is working to control, but will be able to apply to be relicensed to ride on November 26 after his 15-month disqualification was reduced to a year on appeal yesterday, reports The Age.

It says: Shinn had 2031 bets totalling $581,000 over a two-year period on his mother Carol's TAB account and that of Elaine Robl, wife of jockey Peter Robl, who is also disqualified. While the Racing NSW appeal panel, headed by John Hiatt, didn't alter any of the disqualification on seven charges, it ruled that the three-month ban for using his mobile phone in the jockeys' room at Hawkesbury on August 19, 2010, to get a mate to place a $1000 bet for him, be served concurrently.

Hiatt called Shinn's gambling a flagrant abuse of rules, which included him having $2500 on Giresun at best odds when he was riding Diamond Jim in the race at Randwick. That made up six months of the disqualification. He also was openly betting and deposited funds into TAB accounts in agencies.
