STAR Ripper and Latin News may not be among the headline horses of Bart Cummings' all-star team at Leilani Lodge but that could be about to change, reports The Daily Telegraph in Sydney.

It says: The Cups King describes both horses as "promising types" and is banking on them demonstrating their emerging talents at Rosehill Gardens. Star Ripper is Cummings' big chance for a third win in the Listed $100,000 Christmas Cup (2400m).

Undefeated Latin News is out to maintain his perfect race record in the Gold Coast International Hotel Handicap (1200m). Cummings last won a Christmas Cup with Jenkins back in 1993. His previous win in the Sydney Turf Club's summer staying feature was with Lady Upstage in 1978.

Lady Upstage is best known as the dam of Cummings' former champion Shaftesbury Avenue. "Those wins were a few years ago now," Cummings said. "It's about time I won the race again."
