Augusta Proud needed every inch of the 1050 metres of Saturdays Listed Dermody Lightning Stakes to earn her first win since the Magic Millions 2yo Classic in March last year, reports breednet.com.au.

It says: With regular rider Clare Lindop shortly to return home after her European expedition, Chad Lever was entrusted with the job of cajoling the 3yo filly back to winning form. It looked a forlorn hope when bottled up between runners in the straight. When the gap arrived it appeared Ryan Plumb and Cerberus Gal has set up a winning break. Augusta Proud (More Than Ready (USA) x Kadasha (Langfuhr) whittled back the margin and the two crossed the line with a nose advantage to the daughter of More Than Ready from the game Cerberus Gal (General Nediym) with Orbiting Belle (Spinning World), the first 2yo home, a length back in third.
Trained by Leon Macdonald, Augusta Proud (pictured) takes her earnings to $1,608,978 from 7 wins 2 seconds and 2 thirds from 15 starts.

Bred and part-owned by former Olympian Kerry O'Brien, Augusta Proud was passed in at the 2007 Adelaide Magic Millions sale when she failed to make her $50,000 reserve. She is the first foal of the Langfuhr mare Kadasha who produced just one more foal before her death in October 2007. That foal, a 2yo daughter of Dubai Destination named Kardashian, made her first start at Newcastle a fortnight ago and beat just one of the 14 runners home.
