WHILE Saturday's Sandown meeting was conducted with little fanfare, its impact may soon be felt nationally and indeed internationally with at least three of its winners being set for vastly tougher assignments in 2012, reports The Age.

It says: The two-year-old winner Alezan Thunder may yet find herself in the heat of the Gold Coast in just three weeks contending for the $2 million Magic Millions Classic while another winner, Scarf, is off to Dubai and later winner Soft Sand could be headed for stardom.

Caulfield trainer Colin Little was cautious in his optimism following Soft Sand's second win from as many starts, but those who saw the three-year-old give away a start before outclassing her rivals suspect she will be a group 1 winner next year. Little said he started off the campaign for the daughter of Dansili in such a race with a view to her autumn campaign. ''She's really a month early but as a maiden winner before today we thought she just might struggle to get a run in those sort of [group] races, so we thought we'd better go off early and pick out a nice little race,'' he said. ''Now she's won, we'll just back off her a little bit.''

The Grp 2 Armanasco Stakes over 1400 metres in February appeals to the trainer.
