Melbourne’s leading trainer Darren Weir has nominated three horses for the $225,000 Hobart Cup on February 9.

Weir has dominated the race this decade, winning four of the last eight renewals of Tasmania’s richest race, and he has entered last year’s winner Hurdy Gurdy Man, last start Moonee Valley winner First Bloom, and promising three-year-old Rainbow Storm.

Flemington trainer Mike Moroney has entered Surpass and Shenzhou Steeds, while the in-form Magnapal has been nominated by Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’Sullivan.

Former Irish galloper Instrumentalist has been nominated by Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller, while master Caulfield trainer Peter Moody has Macedonian nominated. Other interstate entries come from Hall Of Fame trainer David Hayes with Unchain My Heart and Chris Hyland with Bombalatomba.
