Racing officials have put the starting time of Saturday's Rosehill meeting back more than an hour due to the heatwave forecast for Sydney over the weekend.

Sydney Turf Club racing manager John Nicholson met with Racing NSW stewards on Wednesday at Canterbury where he announced the eight-race program would commence at 2:30pm (AEDT).

"They are forecasting 42 degrees in the west which is extreme and we think for the welfare of the horses and participants that by moving the first race from 1:10pm to 2:30pm, the majority of the meeting will be held in more comfortable conditions," Nicholson said.

"After 3pm it starts to cool off and our final race will be programmed for 6:59pm."

The meeting features the Group Two Expressway Stakes.
