Australian mare Ortensia has finished a gallant fifth in the Hong Kong International Sprint at Sha Tin won by South African J J The Jet Plane.

The Tony Noonan-trained Ortensia was Australia's only representative at the International Meeting which also featured the French trained Melbourne Cup winner Americain who ran third in the Vase (2400m).

Piere Strydom lifted J J The Jet Plane over the line to get the decision over Singapore star Rocket Man in a photo.

Hong Kong's Sacred Kingdom, winner of the past two International Sprints, was three-quarters of a length third.

Ortensia was within striking position during the race and ran home gamely to finish 1-3/4 lengths from the winner.

J J The Jet Plane's victory was the first in the race by a horse from outside Hong Kong in eight years.

The Godolphin-owned Mastery won the Vase after a bold ride from Frankie Dettori to easily hold off Redwood and Americain.
