The plum ride on Stradbroke Handicap second favourite Ortensia is up for grabs after the brilliant filly raced her way into the Group One feature with a bold win in the QTC Cup.

Ortensia had to win Saturday's $150,000 Group Two 1300m race to gain entry into next week's million dollar feature and Craig Williams, who has committed to All Silent as his Stradbroke mount, was instrumental in the result.

Williams said Ortensia ($2.10 fav) was never comfortable on the slow track after she scrambled home to a short head win over Maxisun ($15) and Mr Baritone ($13) and the gun hoop had mixed emotions when he returned to scale.

"I'd be delighted for the connections if she can win the Stradbroke. It's not as if I didn't want to ride her in it, she wasn't in the Stradbroke field before this win and All Silent was," Williams said.

"She is a much better horse on top of the ground and she's a much better chaser. Don't worry about the margin, she was lost once she got to the front and she wasn't at home with the cut in the track."

Winning trainer Tony Noonan was a relieved man after his filly earned herself a Stradbroke start but he wouldn't be drawn into naming a replacement for Williams next week.

"I haven't given that any thought as yet," Noonan said.

"Relief is the best way to describe how I'm feeling right now and we will sit down over dinner and discuss our options as to who might ride her."

Ortensia will carry just 51kg in the Stradbroke and Glen Boss has been named as a leading contender for the plum ride.

Runner-up Maxisun raced without luck and looked like causing an upset when he ranged up to Ortensia inside the furlong while Mr Baritone enhanced his chances of landing back-to-back Stradbroke wins when he found the line strongly.
