Champion jockey Gerald Mosse says Melbourne Cup winner Americain will be better suited racing right-handed in next month's Group One Hong Kong Vase (2400m).

Mosse, who rode in Perth at the weekend, said he was confident the French-trained stayer could peak again for the Vase on December 12 and he would be more at home at Sha Tin than Flemington.

"Racing right-handed, I think, will be even better for him," Mosse said.

"He used to perform all his best races right-handed."

Mosse said Americain was "a super horse" and that he should also adapt to coming back in distance from 3200m to 2400m.

"Distance-wise I don't think it is a biggish problem," Mosse said.

Five of Americain's eight wins in 20 starts have been at 2900 metres or further.

Americain also won the Geelong Cup (2406m) as a lead-up to Melbourne Cup.

Mosse said if there was a problem for Americain it could be the prospect of a hard track at Sha Tin.

"I hope the ground won't be too hard because on tracks with cut in the ground is his best form," Mosse said.

Based in Hong Kong and France for alternate six months of the year, Mosse still marvels at his Melbourne Cup experience.

"The feeling to win it was incredible," he said.

"If you have to compare what the crowd and what the atmosphere is I would say it is the biggest one (race), that's for sure," Mosse said.

"Better than the Arc (Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe) and other big races.

"People dress up and come from all over Australia and even from Europe to watch and get the atmosphere of that race.

"It was one of the biggest races for me to participate in and get a chance to win with a super horse."
