David Payne welcomes unbeaten colt Masquerader back to his stable this week to begin a preparation aimed at the Caulfield Guineas this spring.

After his win in the Todman Stakes in March, Masquerader's owners paid the $150,000 late entry fee to put him in the Golden Slipper.

But just hours before the final field was declared, Masquerader suffered a back muscle injury at morning trackwork which forced him to miss the race.

Payne said Masquerader had fully recovered during his enforced break.

"He has had plenty of time off and comes back to Rosehill on Monday," Payne said.

"He will be ready for the early three-year-old races and the Caulfield Guineas is what he will be aimed at.

"I think we will see the best of him once he gets to 1600 metres."

Payne said the Group One Golden Rose was a possible not probable target as a late entry fee for that race would need to be paid.

Horses among the original nominations for the Golden Slipper are also entered for the three-year-old race at Rosehill in August.

"He's not in the Golden Rose but we'll see what happens after he runs in a race like the Up And Coming," Payne said.

"I believe he is a very serious horse and hopefully he gets to show that this spring."

While he is looking forward to the big spring races, Payne isn't finished with the winter yet as Centennial Park heads towards the Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane.

Centennial Park currently occupies 31st position in the ballot order for the Group One Stradbroke (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 12 with several defectors above him.

The field limit for the $1 million Stradbroke at Eagle Farm on June 12 is 18 with two emergencies.

Centennial Park is at $26 on TAB Sportsbet with Ortensia holding favouritism at $5.50 ahead of Whobegotyou and Latin News at $7.50.

Winner of the Group Three AAMI Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last October, Centennial Park came within a short half head of a Group Two victory when beaten by Brilliant Light in the Ajax Stakes in March.
