Champion jockey Jim Cassidy is awaiting the results of x-rays on his hand to determine the extent of injuries suffered in a gardening accident at his Sydney home.

The accident has put his spring carnival hopes in jeopardy.

Cassidy was trimming a hedge when the tool slipped and sliced two of his fingers almost to the bone.

"Jim went to the local hospital and they sent him straight to a hand surgeon," Cassidy's manager Matt Privato said.

"He is being assessed to see how bad it is." Cassidy had a strong book of rides at Saturday's Epsom Handicap meeting including Bellagio Wynn in the Group One Metropolitan Handicap.

He is the regular partner of dual Group One winner Vision And Power who is heading towards next month's Cox Plate.
