Stakeswinner Gold In Dubai has thrived during a recent freshen-up and is ready to fire in the Group Three Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield.

Trainer Mark Riley said the four-year-old had come through a barrier trial at Cranbourne on January 25 in top order ahead of Saturday's 1100-metre feature.

Gold In Dubai has not raced since his fifth to Here De Angels in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

"He pulled up a bit ordinary after that race," Riley said.

"We had a bit of trouble with him, he had some leg problems but the freshen-up has done him the world of good."

Gold In Dubai led into the straight last start before tiring in the last 150 metres to finish just under three lengths from the winner.

The Desert Sun gelding is at $21 on TAB Sportsbet for the Rubiton in a market which is headed by three-year-old filly Avenue.

The Peter Moody-trained Avenue has won four of her five starts and is the $3.40 favourite ahead of Lucky Secret ($4) and Irish Lights ($4.60) from the David Hayes yard.

Irish Lights is racing first-up after her fifth to Headway in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in late October.

That came two weeks after the Fastnet Rock filly defeated Melito by a long neck to win the Group One Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.

The frontrunning Avenue is resuming after winning the Group Three Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate day.

That gave Avenue a hat-trick after successes in the Group Three Thoroughbred Club Stakes and the Group Three Champagne Stakes.

"He's been a little bit big and while I think he'll appreciate the run I do expect him to run very well on Saturday," Riley said of Gold In Dubai.

Two starts back Gold In Dubai, who also races on the pace, was edged out by a neck by Glam Slam in the Listed AR Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on June 6.

A run earlier he scored a commanding all-the-way victory over 1200 metres at Caulfield in May.

Gold In Dubai has two wins, including the 2008 Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, and seven placings from 15 starts.
