The only flaw Lee Freedman can find in Oaks favourite Samantha Miss is that Kris Lees trains her and he doesn't.

Freedman has two runners in Thursday's Classic, Estee and Miss Scarlatti, but admits they will have to be right on their game, and Samantha Miss off hers, to win.

"The only chink in Kris's filly is that she is not in my barn, that's her only flaw," Freedman said.

The Hall of Fame trainer has won the Oaks at Flemington four times with Northwood Plume (1994), Kensington Palace (1997), Special Harmony (2003) and Serenade Rose (2005).

Lees will be aiming for his first with the best horse to ever enter his yard.

Samantha Miss won the Champagne Stakes in the autumn, made a clean sweep of the four-race Princess Series in Sydney and finished a creditable third in the Cox Plate last Saturday week.

While most of her rivals ran in Saturday's Wakeful Stakes at Flemington, Lees believes the 12-day break between the Cox Plate and the Oaks is in her favour as she attempts 2500 metres for the first time.

"That's the big question and it's a question for all of them," Lees said.

"She gives me the impression she will get it no trouble as long as she settles.

"She didn't settle as well as I would have hoped in the Cox Plate then she wobbled around the turn.

"But the big track at Flemington should suit her a lot better than Moonee Valley and I've had the Oaks in mind for a very long time.

"Just whether she is ready for it in the spring remains to be seen but I couldn't be happier with how she has done since the Cox Plate.

Samantha Miss has drawn well in barrier three and will be reunited with Hugh Bowman after Glen Boss rode her in the Cox Plate at 47.5kg.

Miss Scarlatti has fared badly with the barrier draw and will jump from 17 while Estee has gate 10.

Kim Waugh will saddle up Kimillsy who has spent most of the spring chasing Samantha Miss around and finished a solid fourth in the Wakeful won by the Guy Walter-trained Rocha.

Samantha Miss was as short as $1.85 ahead of Kimillsy and Miss Scarlatti both at $10 with Rocha at $11 alongside the Bart Cummings-trained Allez Wonder who lists Dato'Tan Chin Nam as one of her owners.

But after a carnival of upsets, perhaps it is stablemate Think Money punters should embrace with the $17 chance to carry Dato'Tan's black and white checks worn by her jockey Blake Shinn in Tuesday's historic Melbourne Cup victory.

Not only has Cummings won more Melbourne Cups than anyone else can hope to achieve, he holds the Oaks record with eight.
