Chad Schofield is planning on winning back-to-back Cox Plates, reports Racing Network. The gun jockey, who led throughout for his first Group 1 win on Shamus Award in last year’s Cox Plate, told TVN’s Bruce Clark he hopes to partner Go Indy Go in this year’s Cox Plate.

“I’ve already got my eye on getting to 47kgs in the Cox Plate with Go Indy Go,” Schofield said.

The Leon Macdonald-trained Go Indy Go is a last start winner of the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) in Sydney, after coming from last.

Schofield rode her on that occasion and after the win Macdonald said the Bernardini filly was as good, if not better than any horse he has trained.

The last three-year-old filly to win the Cox Plate was the great Surround, trained by the late Geoff Murphy, back in 1976.

Go Indy Go’s form is hard to fault from just four starts.

She ran an unlucky second in the Listed Cinderella Stakes over 1050 metres on debut, before running second in the Group 3 Breeders Stakes at Morphettville (1200m).

She then scored a stunning win in the Group 3 SA Sires Produce (1400m), before heading to Sydney where she captured the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m).

Go Indy Go will resume in the H. D. McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday week.
