The good and the bad...History says there's good news and bad news for punters following Green Moon through the Spring Racing Carnival. The import has been one of the most heavily hyped gallopers leading into next week's official launch of the Carnival following his impressive Memsie Stakes 5th at his first run off a spell. He continues his campaign in Sat's Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley. OK, that's the good news for those who fancy the Lloyd and Nick Williams-owned, Robert Hickmott-trained gelding's chances in the Cox Plate, but bad news for those who had him pencilled in as their early Caulfield Cup pick. The 1600m Dato, formerly known as the John F. Feehan Stakes, has been a graveyard for Caulfield Cup hopefuls. Racing Victoria says none of the past 30 Caulfield Cup winners have come through the Dato. Seven Dato winners have run in the Cup in that time with Fields Of Omagh (2nd in 2002), Beaux Art (3rd in 1995) and Inaflury (3rd in 1999) the only ones to place Green Moon, who ran 2nd to Southern Speed in last year's Caulfield Cup, is currently the $15 fav in the TAB's market.
