Lloyd Williams has ruled Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon out of next week’s Caulfield Cup. This confirms the weights will be raised 1.5kgs, as has been expected for several days, clearing the way for Nash Rawiller to ride the second favourite in the race, Royal Descent.

Green Moon was not expected to run in the Caulfield Cup and Williams confirmed that was the situation today.

Macedon Lodge today contacted Racing Victoria stewards and informed them the horse would not cvontest the Caulfield Cup, but would be aimed at the Cox Plate and the Melbourne Cup.

Manighar is now the top-weight and there is a doubt over whether he will take his place in the race.

Trainer Peter Moody wants to wait until the horse gallops this weekend before making any decision about a Caulfield Cup start.

Green Moon will run against Atlantic Jewel in Saturday’s Group 1 $400,000 Caulfield Stakes (2000m). (racingnetwork)
