Big adventure...Michelle Payne is heading off to work at an orphanage in Rwanda for four weeks, followed by a week on safari in Kenya and a week in Mauritius. She then returns to Melbourne to prepare for the spring racing. The popular jockey says: 'I'm a bit nervous but I'm really looking forward to it. It's going to be a great experience.'

Cup tip...No, not the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups. It's the Moe Cup for Flemington winner Savquaw, according to trainer Peter Gelagotis. He says: 'He's the best horse in my stable and my favourite horse and he's really helped kick us along over the last couple of years. His aim is the Moe Cup. It's a big day out for our stable and a chance to look after our owners with a marquee. Hopefully we can win it again.'

The Lloyd Williams-Robert Hickmott camp must be quietly confident that Vesper can measure up for the spring. The Zabeel 3YO scored a stout win in the Rodney Johnson Handicap (2000 metres) at Flemington at his third raceday outing. Apprentice Jack Hill settled Vesper ($3.50 fav) at the rear before making a long run around the field. He took a while to hit top gear but forged to the line to grab Far To Go ($17) in the last stride.

Trainer Gerald Ryan says Stradbroke runner-up Melito will back up in the Winter Stakes in a fortnight provided she comes through the race OK. He says: 'She went super. I couldn't ask for more...She will come back for the Winter Stakes, all things being equal.'
