We don't have to ask the question 'how good is Shoot Out' because we already know the answer...He is brilliant! What a win by the Gold Coast star in the Bletchingly at Caulfield on Saturday. Great - but still only a warmup according to his trainer John Wallace. He says: 'He'll just improve and improve as we go on...He's done things that I've never seen before and we can add this one to the list.' Shoot out has a 3-card trick waiting for him - the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup, though he's likely only to tackle two of them. Wallace is convinced he'll run a strong 3200m. Shoot Out showed his staying power by winning the Grp 1 2400m AJC Derby but he still couldn't convince many 'experts', and most punters, that he could become the first 3YOto win a Bletchingly Stakes.

Jockey Stathi Katsidis reckons Shoot Out is the horse of a lifetime. His lifetime, anyway. He says: He's the best horse I will be ever associated with. I've probably got 25 years left in my career but a horse like this comes along once in a lifetime and I'm just lucky to be aboard him...He's just got an awesome motor and a lot of character. Only very bad luck will beat him.'

Shoot Out faces a tough assignment next start in the Grp 2 JJ Liston1400m at Caulfield on Aug 14. But Wallace and Katsidis don't seem too worried. Wallace says: 'You don't want to get too far ahead of yourself but he's come back really well and who knows what else he can do? He's been able to do this off a soft trial at Doomben so he'll just improve out of sight you'd think...He's just a superstar horse,'
