Moonee Valley was hit with 15mm of rain overnight, edging the racing surface close to the slow range ahead of the weekends Cox Plate carnival. Track manager Marty Synan said the track was officially rated a Dead 5 at 6.30am on Wednesday morning but constant drizzle would have the track now close to being slow. Synan is hopeful the worst of the weather has passed and the surface could improve to race as a dead track on Friday night for the Manikato Stakes program.
