Gold Trail's jockey Michael Rodd knew the horse was in trouble when he struggled to take the lead early in the race. He says: 'I don't want to make excuses, but it was his first time up the straight and maybe if we raced on the far side where he could find the rail like he was racing in Sydney, he might have run a better race.'
