Melbourne Racing Club track manager Jason Kerr says the Caulfield track surface will be a Dead-4 at 7am on Saturday - just right for Caulfield Cup day. Connections of French galloper Americain have been raising concerns about the likely hardness of the course by the time the Cup is run late on Saturday but Kerr says he will amply water the track to ensure a comfortable racing surface.

Champion French rider Gerald Mosse and Stephanie Nigge, the constant companion and handler for 2010 Melbourne Cup hero Americain, will walk the Caulfield track at lunchtime tomorrow, reports TVN. It says if they find the track "too firm" they will have no hesitation in scratching the horse from Saturday's $2.5 million Caulfield Cup.
