Brilliant Team Hawkes-trained sprinter Chautauqua has been crunched in betting for the Group 1 $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Sportingbet says the first-up winner of Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) has been heavily supported from $4 into $3.30 and now a clear-cut favourite at that quote.
Stablemate, Deep Field has eased from $5 out to $6.
“We took a big bet of $10,000 at $4 for Chautauqua from one of our smart punters and there were plenty of other smaller bets over the space of a few hours,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.
“Clearly this is the pick of the Hawkes runners, at least for this race anyway.”
With Deep Field drifting, Joe Pride’s Terravista is now the second favourite for the Newmarket at $5.
