There's an excellent set of nominations for the Melbourne Racing Club's first meeting of the season at Caulfield on Saturday, reports Racing Victoria.

The Darren Weir-trained Puissance De Lune heads the list of 16 nominations for the $200,000 Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m), with the former import returning to defend the title he won in 2013 when he defeated Ajeeb and Second Effort.

The Chris Waller-trained Foreteller has also been nominated for the Lawrence, alongside the Peter Moody trio Lidari, Kitten On The Run and Brambles.

Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) winner, Thiamandi  from South Australian trainer Lloyd Kennewell’s stable is an entry along with the Shawn Mathrick-trained Gig, who finished second to Thiamandi at their previous meeting in the final Black-Type race of the 2013/14 season.

Talented sprinters Jabali and Cornrow from the Mick Price yard and Robbie Laing’s Boomwaa are among 20 entries for the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) for the colts and geldings. Lindsay Park’s Zululand has also been entered in the $150,750 race.

The Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) for three-year-old fillies has attracted 19 entries.

Stand-out entries for the $150,750 event include Team Hawkes’ London Lolly, Aquanita Racing’s Empress O’Reilly and the Brent Stanley-trained Kalabek.

The Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) will also run on Saturday, with the Trent Busuttin/Natalie Young-trained El Roca and Moody’s Moment Of Change, Michael Moroney’s Jemerica and the Ellerton/Zahra-trained Pillar Of Creation among the 16 nominations.

Melbourne Racing Club has received a total of 210 entries for the nine-race card with the $40,000 benchmark 90 race again proving popular, attracting 30 nominations.

The rail on Saturday is to be pushed out 10 metres on the entire circuit. The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain for much of the week, with a cloudy top of 16 predicted for Saturday.
