The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board will hear the charge laid by Racing Victoria stewards against licensed trainer Robert Smerdon at 10.30am on Thursday, 7 February 2013, says Racing Victoria.

It adds: Smerdon has been charged with a breach of AR 175A which reads as follows: "Any person bound by these Rules who either within a racecourse or elsewhere in the opinion of the Committee of any Club or the Stewards has been guilty of conduct prejudicial to the image, or interests, or welfare of racing may be penalised."

The charge relates to Smerdon providing jockey Damien Oliver with approximately $11,000 in cash on behalf of Mark Hunter - the payment being for the settlement of a bet placed by Mr Oliver, via Mr Hunter, on the rival horse Miss Octopussy to win Race 6 at Moonee Valley on 1 October 2010.
