IT TOOK Racing Victoria Ltd stewards four months to lay a charge against jockey Danny Nikolic in relation to a string of beaten rides but less than a week for the hearing date to be set, with Nikolic due to front the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on June 21, reports The Age.

It says: Nikolic faces nine charges, four of which relate to improper practices and conduct prejudicial to the interests of racing, while a further four charges relate to the use of a mobile phone at a race meeting without the permission of stewards.

The jockey was also charged with engaging in improper behaviour at Moonee Valley on February 13. After a long and very public investigation, Nikolic is relieved that a date has been set for the hearing and remains confident he has a strong defence.

''My [legal] team have got the briefs and are looking at everything now. I'm confident at the moment, but we'll just see what happens,'' he said yesterday.
