Libran cops 2kgs penalty for Sydney Cup

Racing NSW handicappers have imposed a 2kg penalty on Libran to lift his handicap weight to 52kgs in the $2 million Sydney Cup.

Libran was an impressive 2 lengths winner in the Manion Cup at Rosehill on Saturday, prompting Sportsbet to cut his Sydney Cup quote to $4.50 (7/2) favoritism.

Criterion heads Sydney Cup weights on 58.5kgs while Mongolian Khan hasa 58kgs.

Criterion ran an improved second-up 3rd on Saturday in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) behind Winx and Mongolian Khan was 5th in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) behind The United States.

The Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) will be run at Randwick on April 9.
