CHRIS MUNCE has picked up the prized Caulfield and Melbourne cups ride on Kiwi mare Daffodil following her group 1 victory in the Windsor Park Plate (1600 metres) in New Zealand at the weekend, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

It adds: ''I've been speaking to the connections of Daffodil since her win and I've got the ride on her in the cups, I am looking forward to getting on her,'' Munce told the Herald yesterday.

Daffodil won the AJC Australian Oaks in the autumn with Hugh Bowman in the saddle but with the four-year-old having just 51.5 kilograms in the Caulfield and Melbourne cups, the ride in the feature group 1s went Munce's way.

''She looks to be a very strong stayer,'' Munce said. ''She was dominant in her win in the oaks in Sydney in the autumn and after her first couple of runs back from a spell back home in New Zealand she looks to have come back in pretty good shape, too.

''She has followed a second and a fourth at home with a strong-finishing win in group 1 company in New Zealand on Saturday and she has already proven herself to be a good stayer. She is a great ride to have for the cups.''
