MICK Price prefaced his comments by saying he often got these things wrong, but the Caulfield trainer yesterday declared filly Samaready was his best chance of winning the group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes this month, reports The Age.

It says: Price, who has three fillies engaged on Saturday in the Blue Diamond Prelude as well as in the $1 million race on February 25, watched his trio gallop on the course proper at Caulfield yesterday morning, and while he reported he was pleased with all three, it was Samaready and not the Blue Diamond favourite, Malasun, who he felt was a slightly better prospect of taking the big prize.

''If I had to have a guess - and there's not much at all between them - I'd lean to Samaready,'' he said. ''She might have even been on her way down when she won at Flemington at her debut [December 17] as she'd been lying down a lot that week, but she's had a nice little break since and I think she's improved a lot.''

Price, who has trained three placegetters in Blue Diamonds over the past 10 years, said Samaready, who worked well yesterday when partnering Anthony Cummings' flying filly Diamond Earth, impressed him as being more advanced at her second preparation than Blue Diamond Preview winner Malasun or his Flying Spur filly Tuscan Haze, who makes her debut on Saturday.
