MACKINNON Stakes winner Alcopop may have run his last race, reports TVN.

It says: Trainer and part-owner Jake Stephens today flagged retirement for Alcopop, who comes out of quarantine at Werribee early next month after a trip to Hong Kong and spectacular Melbourne spring carnival. Stephens said retirement for the eight-year-old was a definite consideration.

"I don't want to flog him around, he's been a good horse to us," Stephens said. "We'll see what he looks like after a few months off. With his knee, I don't want him to get arthritis - once they have a fracture like that they will pretty much get it anyway. I want to make sure he has a bit of quality of life in retirement as well. What he's done for us, you want to ensure he goes out on a good note.

"He earned such good money this campaign. It's a tough, tough ask to back up because it would take him a while to get fit."
