HERE come the Kiwis. The first air cargo of New Zealand contenders for the Brisbane winter carnival arrives on Wednesday and includes two familiar names in Firebolt and The Hombre, reports Bart Sinclair in the Courier-Mail.

His report adds: Firebolt and The Hombre were successful at the carnival last year and they clinched a return trip with good performances at Te Rapa last Saturday.Firebolt burst back to form to win over 1600m and The Hombre ran well for third in the same event.

Trainer Roger James had been concerned by Firebolt's form and has resorted to frequent jumping stints to fire him back to form.

"I felt he was not firing 100 per cent but he has enjoyed a few jump sessions and it seems to have got him back into form," James said.

Firebolt may run in the Chairman's Handicap at Doomben in a fortnight on his way to the Doomben Cup a week later. Highly rated stablemate The Party Stand also is coming for the Doomben Cup. The four-year-old Thorn Park mare won the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes over 2000m at Ellerslie on March 12. She then had five weeks between runs before a solid fourth on a heavy track in the Easter Handicap over 1600m two weeks ago.
