Caulfield Cup winner and leading Melbourne Cup hope Mongolian Khan is being treated after a colic attack and is OUT of the Melbourne Cup.
The Murray Baker-trained four-year-old was being treated on Thursday morning, with Racing Victoria Stewards advising more details would be available in the afternoon.
Mongolian Khan, the winner of the ATC Derby in the autumn, was $10 third favourite for next week’s $6.2 million handicap.
Also requiring veterinary assessments are raiders Sky Hunter and Quest For More, who are guaranteed their places in the Melbourne Cup field at 17th and 19th in the ballot.
The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained Sky Hunter was reported to have a bruised heel on his left foreleg, while the Roger Charlton-trained Quest for More cast his left fore plate on Thursday. The pair will be assessed prior to final declarations on Saturday.
