THE international numbers continue to swell for the spring carnival with confirmation that the 2008 runner-up Bauer and Godolphin's multiple group 1 winner Campanologist are bound for the $6 million race on November 2, reports The Age.

It says: Bauer's part-owner, Terry Henderson, whose OTI Racing still has a number of Melbourne Cup hopefuls, said yesterday that Bauer had delighted trainer Luca Cumani with his fourth at Newbury in England last Friday and was now booked to fly to Melbourne.

''Before that race we were tiptoeing around a bit wondering what to do but he showed that not only was he over his injury but he had the willingness to race,'' Henderson said.

Bauer did not race for 95 weeks after Viewed nosed him out of the 2008 Melbourne Cup because of a tendon injury but has now had two runs this campaign, including last Friday's fast-finishing fourth at $67 in a 2200-metre group 3 event.
