A heavy track with surface water on it and no suitable transfer options has resulted in the Benalla race meeting being held over.

Weather conditions in the northeast of Victoria have resulted in the Benalla race meeting being postponed.

Friday's meeting will now be held on April 8 and run alongside the Sandown meeting.

Following a track inspection on Thursday, the Benalla track was rated in the heavy range with surface water detected.

With showers continuing, further rain expected on Friday and the lack of an available transfer venue, the decision was made to move the meeting to next week giving the track the opportunity to dry out.

The program will remain the same with nominations re-opened and new fields declared on Monday.
