Group One-winning sprinter Famous Seamus has been retired after a career that realised 12 wins and more than $1.3 million.

Trained by Noel Mayfield-Smith, Famous Seamus beat Spirit Of Boom and Buffering to win the 2014 BTC Cup.

In October that year he finished third in a three-way photo-finish to the Manikato Stakes won by Lankan Rupee.

The eight-year-old's final win came in November in the Listed Ladies Day Cup on his home track at Hawkesbury.

Mayfield-Smith and the gelding's owners Jim and Janice Smith made the decision to call time on his career after his unplaced run at Rosehill on Saturday.
