Paul Messara will wait on the weather before deciding whether impressive debut winner Rekindled Alliance joins stablemate Double Ranga in Saturday's Group Three Up And Coming Stakes.

Warwick Farm was downgraded from a dead track on Wednesday to a heavy (8) on Thursday after 8.5mm of rain fell overnight, placing Rekindled Alliance's participation in the 1300m event in doubt.

"I'm just waiting to see what the track is going to be like," Messara said.

"It went from a dead five yesterday to a heavy eight today. It's likely the filly (Double Ranga) will run and if it's wet Rekindled Alliance won't run.

"If it's heavy he definitely won't be running but if it's a dead five or slow six he probably would."

Messara said he would wait another week with Rekindled Alliance should he not get the conditions he's after on Saturday, but the colt is unlikely to be thrown straight into the deep end against Smart Missile and Helmet in the Group Three Run To The Rose (1200m).

A 3YO Benchmark-75 over 1400m is the preferred option should the son of Redoute's Choice not start in the Up And Coming.

Rekindled Alliance made a big impact winning on debut at Canterbury last Wednesday week over an unsuitable 1100m, surprising Messara and impressing top jockey Corey Brown with his burst of acceleration.

The three-year-old, who is a full-brother to Group Two winner Rekindled Interest, is being aimed at the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Messara decided to run talented filly Double Ranga against the boys in the Up And Coming instead of in the Group Three Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) for fillies which features the return of Golden Slipper placegetter Elite Falls, dual Group One placegetter Pane In The Glass and stakeswinner Streama.

"I just thought the Up And Coming was a significantly easier race," Messara said.

"I thought the Silver Shadow would be a far harder race to win."

Rekindled Alliance is at $7 with TAB Sportsbet for the Up And Coming while Double Ranga is at $11.

Promising gelding Manawanui won a barrier trial by 10 lengths on Monday and is the dominant $2 favourite.

"The favourite is very short in fixed betting but I think they (Rekindled Alliance and Double Ranga) are both good each-way chances," Messara said.

"I'm very happy with both of them. The filly is in top order and so is he. She seemed to get through the slow going last start but I've got no guide as to whether he would handle it."

Double Ranga finished a close second to Florentina on a slow track over 1300m at Rosehill on July 30.
