Takeover Target has continued his impressive build-up to Saturday's Group One The Goodwood with a gallop on the course proper at Morphettville with Jay Ford back in the saddle.

The jockey returns to action on the nine-year-old for the 1200-metre feature after trainer Joe Janiak's shock decision to replace him with Nash Rawiller in Takeover Target's slashing last-start win in the Group One TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 18.

"He did it well within himself," Ford said of Thursday's hitout.

"The horse is fit and well, he's a happy horse and everything is good going into Saturday.

"I think the run in the TJ has brought him on in condition, his coat looks great and the horse is fantastic.

"He's definitely improved from his first-up run."

The TJ Smith was just the second time in Takeover Target's illustrious 38-start career that Ford has not ridden him and the first time in 20 trips to the winner's enclosure without the jockey on his back.

TAB Sportsbet has Takeover Target at $1.60 with the closest to him in betting I Am Invincible at $10.
