A possible Breeders' Cup start goes on the line for Australian-owned sprinter Scenic Blast in a Group Three race in the United States on Tuesday.

Scenic Blast will take his place as topweight in the Morvich Handicap (1200m) on Hollywood Park's turf track.

The $US100,000 ($A101,366) event is being dubbed as a "win and you're in" race for Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint hopefuls.

Named Australian horse of the year in 2009, Scenic Blast has raced three times for Californian trainer John Shirreffs.

His best effort came with a second placing in the Group One Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar.

Hollywood Park was the venue for Scenic Blast's United States unplaced debut in June and the six-year-old's most recent appearance resulted in a three-length fifth in the Del Mar Mile.

Breeders' Cup racing returns to Churchill Downs, the home of the famous Kentucky Derby, on November 5 and November 6.

Consisting of 14 races, the 27th Breeders' Cup festival will offer $US25.5 million ($A25.8 million) in stakes.

Scenic Blast is a three-time Group One winner but he has been winless since taking out the King's Stand Stakes during the 2009 Royal Ascot carnival in England.
