West Australian sprinter Scenic Blast is Australia's top-rated racehorse according to the authoritative International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IHFA).

The Danny Morton-trained four-year-old received a 120 rating for the second leg of his Lightning Stakes-Newmarket Handicap double at Flemington on March 7.

The IHFA rated that effort one point clear of Apache Cat's Australia Stakes win at Moonee Valley.

Both events came up short of this month's KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore out of which Hong Kong superstar, Sacred Kingdom (122), regained his world sprint crown and Rocket Man blasted to international recognition with a 121.

Scenic Blast leaves Australia this week for England where he will run in the King's Stand at Royal Ascot.

In the ratings for the six months to May 17, just before Apache Cat successfully defended his Doomben 10,000 title, Australian trained Takeover Target (119) and Maldivian (118) also turned in top 50 performances.

American three-year-old Gladiatorus recorded the world's best-rated performance in winning the 1777m Dubai Duty Free in March, earning a 127, three points clear of Hong Kong Mile winner Good Ba Ba and Dubai World Cup winner, Well Armed (USA).

Rising US juvenile champions Mine That Bird and Rachel Alexandra also filled top 10 slots.

The top ratings recorded between November 1, 2008, and May 17, 2009, were: Gladiatorus (USA) 127; Good Ba Ba (USA), Well Armed (USA) 124; Eagle Mountain (GB), Sacred Kingdom (Aus), Screen Hero (Jpn) 122; Deep Sky (Jpn), Mine That Bird (USA), Paco Boy (Ire), Pocket Power (SAF), Rachel Alexandra (USA), Rocket Man (Aus), Sea The Stars (Ire) 121.
