Gerald Ryan is keeping the options open for Brisbane Cup hopeful Ready To Lift who is now a strong chance to run in the Lord Mayor's Cup at Canterbury on Saturday.

The Rosehill trainer also has the five-year-old nominated for Saturday's Group One Doomben Cup (2020m) but that now appears unlikely.

The mare was at $13 on Sunday for the Doomben Cup with Miss Darcey and Izonit sharing favouritism at $6.50.

Ready To Lift has been based in Victoria since last month and finished a close third to Sir Skalahad over 2000 metres at Flemington on Saturday.

"She probably needed that run," Ryan said.

"I think we might have a go at the Lord Mayor's Cup (1900m).

"If she can't win in Sydney then there's no point in taking her up there."

Ryan said if Ready To Lift did not run at Canterbury on Saturday he would save her up for the Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m) at Doomben on May 23.

"There's also the option of staying in Sydney after the Lord Mayor's Cup and then going to the McKell Cup before heading to the Brisbane Cup, we'll let her tell us," Ryan said.

Ryan decided to base the stayer in Melbourne because of a combination of more suitable programming and Sydney's wet weather.

Ready To Lift finished seventh to Chasm in the Listed Auckland Racing Club Handicap (1610m) at Flemington on Anzac Day.

The More Than Ready mare landed her biggest race when she claimed the Group Three Summer Cup (2400m) at Randwick on Boxing Day last year, two weeks after winning the Listed Christmas Cup over the same distance at Rosehill.

The Listed McKell Cup (2400m) is at Rosehill on May 30 while the Group Two Brisbane Cup is over the same distance at Eagle Farm on June 6.
