There will be no early night for Chris Waller ahead of the first day of the Randwick carnival with the leading trainer to saddle up PJ Bell Stakes favourite Red Tracer at Canterbury on Friday.
The Listed PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) for three-year-old fillies is the feature at the last night race meeting for the season.
A full-sister to Group One-winning stablemate Shellscrape who runs against Black Caviar in Saturday's TJ Smith Stakes, Red Tracer goes into the race fresh from a month's break.
"Barrier nine is not ideal at Canterbury but she has done well," Waller said.
"She has had a barrier trial and is ready for the race.
"She has come a long way this preparation and has been stakes-placed twice.
"I think next spring is when we will really crank her up."
Red Tracer was given a three-month spell after she claimed her first city win at Rosehill in late October.
She won over 1200 metres at Randwick when she returned on January 29 then made the big leap to Group company where she tested some proven performers.
She ran Obsequious to a long neck in the Group Two Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) on February 12 in which the winner's Peter Snowden-trained stablemate Parables was third.
At her first attempt beyond 1200 metres three weeks later, Red Tracer ran Parables to a short neck in the Group Two Surround Stakes (1400m).
She tuned up for her PJ Bell assignment with a win in a 900m barrier trial last week.
TAB Sportsbet posted Red Tracer at $4.80 on Thursday with Palomares at $6, Steps In Time $9 and Queenslander Military Rose at $10.
Red Tracer will come in to barrier eight if third emergency Smash Hit fails to gain a run while Military Rose and Palomares have had their tasks made harder by drawing 17 and 16 respectively.
