Lightly-raced Melbourne filly Born To Rock is poised for bigger things after posting an easy win the Gai Waterhouse Classic, but rider Matthew Palmer warned her stamina was limited.

Born To Rock ($3.70) led throughout in the $100,000 Listed event and sent favourite punters home on a winning note.

Cicarelli ($13) ran on well to claim second with $61 outsider Flinders City third but all the honours were with the winner.

Trained by Michael Moroney ar Flemington, Born To Rock took her record to four wins and a second from 11 starts and the victory made up for an unlucky defeat at Eagle Farm last start.

Palmer said Born To Rock was always travelling like the winner but added she was getting very tired near the line.

"It was a pretty convincing win in the end," he said.

"She was very forward for the race and ready to run well.

"Once I got to the 800 metres and she was doing it so easily I was confident and I knew then she had it in the bag.

"She's an up-and-comer with a very bright future but I doubt she'd get much further.

"They told me before the race not to pull the whip and I was happy to ride her hands and heels to the line."

Sydney mare Jerezana was scratched at the start of the Gai Waterhouse Classic last year and she almost repeated the act when she reared and got her front legs over the barriers just before the start.

Chief steward Wade Birch ordered Jerezana to be backed out of the barriers for a veterinary inspection and she was passed fit to start.

Punters who backed Jerezana were left to rue their luck after she missed the start and was never in the hunt, finishing 13th as a $4.60 chance.
