Trainer John McArdle has VRC Oaks aspirations for And Rock who overcame a trio of Peter Moody-trained fillies to win her second metropolitan race at Caulfield.

Saturday's The Age Good Food Guide Hcp (1400m) was expected to be dominated by the leading stable's runners headed by Plucky Belle ($1.50 fav).

However jockey Chris Symons gave And Rock ($18), a Sandown midweek winner two starts back on a heavy track, a perfect trail third on the fence and once she got clear she went on to topple Plucky Belle by a short neck.

The Moody-trained Hurriyet ($20), a sister to the former outstanding filly Samantha Miss, ran on well to be a half-head away third with the other stablemate and race leader Cute Emily ($5) fourth.

"We thought if she could run in the first two or three today we'd be very happy going forward as she gets over more ground," McArdle said of And Rock who is a very big filly by Fastnet Rock.

"Chris rode her perfect. Just coming around the turn, I'm glad she's the size she is as she got into a power of trouble but when you are on something that big you can push them away.

"She'll be better suited on a bigger track.

"The beauty of today is not having to go early, she got to go to sleep and back on top of the ground helped her.

"Chris just bided his time. She's got good tactical speed and just relaxes when she gets there and has a good turn of foot at the finish."

McArdle said the VRC Oaks (2500m), a race the Mornington trainer won with Hollow Bullet in 2004, has always been a target for the filly.

"We've always thought the Oaks but we'll let her tell us as she goes along," he said.

"We've got a nice little race picked out for her in Adelaide in a couple of weeks time."

That race is the Listed Lindsay Park Guineas (1600m), a set weights event for three-year-old fillies at Morphettville on September 10.

McArdle said And Rock could also run in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (2000m) for three-year-old filliesat Caulfield on October 15, Caulfield Cup day.
