Gerald Ryan has decided against kicking off Melito's autumn campaign in Saturday's Group Two Breeders Classic but will still be represented by Strawberry Field.

Ryan waited until after watching Melito work on Tuesday morning to make a final decision, but said the dual Group One winner wasn't quite fit enough yet to go to the races on Saturday.

"She'll either resume next week in the Triscay or the following week in the Millie Fox," Ryan said.

The Breeders Classic has 17 nominations with the Gai Waterhouse-trained multiple Group One winner More Joyous the headline act.

Group One Myer Classic winner Sacred Choice will resume in the same race and dual Group One placegetter Beaded is also among the nominations.

With Melito not going around, Hugh Bowman will ride Strawberry Field in the 1200m mares' contest.

Ryan can't fault the talented daughter of Encosta De Lago and expects her to run a good race first-up.

"It's a good field but she's a good mare," Ryan said.

"She'll run very well on Saturday."

Strawberry Field will follow the same path as last year when she was in the care of John O'Shea.

"She runs on Saturday, then the Millie Fox and then the Coolmore Classic, which she was unlucky in last year," Ryan said.

The five-year-old finished third to Melito in a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill on February 1 and Ryan reported that she worked strongly on the inside grass at Rosehill on Tuesday morning in preparation for her return.

"She has come up terrific," the trainer said.

"Her trial was good, she was dragged back to last, gave a start and got home really well."

Final acceptances for Saturday's Randwick meeting, which features six stakes races, will be taken on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Racing NSW has extended its trial of Wednesday acceptances for Saturday metropolitan meetings in Sydney until the end of May.
