Mature-aged apprentice Renee Hinricks is determined not to let the occasion get to her when she rides in her first Group One race in Sydney on Saturday.

Hinricks, 25, is apprenticed to Queensland trainer Col Williamson who saddles up Just About Ready in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

A winner of only two metropolitan races since becoming an apprentice with Williamson at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, Hinricks is eagerly awaiting her return to Sydney and the big time.

"I started off with Bobby Pearse in Sydney and was with him for nine months," Hinricks said.

"I'm very excited to be going down to ride him but I'm not overly worried about it.

"But it might be different on race day."

Hinricks has ridden the son of More Than Ready in all bar one of his 12 starts including all his four wins.

"The only time I didn't ride him was at his second start when he raced in Brisbane when I never had my city licence," she said.

Hinricks is due to finish her apprenticeship soon but has applied for a 12-month extension.

Williamson admits Just About Ready faces a massive task in the Spring Champion Stakes but had no qualms with the decision by the gelding's connections to engage Hinricks.

"Loyalty is a rare thing these days," he said.

"She is my apprentice and has won on him four times so she knows the horse backwards."

Williamson has never saddled a Sydney runner but knows what to expect.

"I used to work breaking in horses for Tommy Smith before I came to Queensland," he said.

"I've been training quite a while and I've always wanted to go back to Randwick with a runner.

"Just About Ready has been in good form but it's a big class rise for him."
